This carefully curated journey, available to only 8 guests, invites you to immerse yourself in the world of Sangiovese wines, renowned for their character, elegance, and regional diversity.

Throughout the tour, you'll traverse picturesque landscapes, from the ancient streets of Siena to the idyllic vineyards of Montalcino. Guided by passionate experts and winemakers, you'll explore the intricate winemaking process, from vine to glass, and gain insights into the rich history that has shaped these iconic wines.

Indulge in private tastings at celebrated estates like Fontodi, Querciabella, and Costanti, where you'll savor the nuanced flavors of Sangiovese and discover its different expressions. Your palate will be treated to the exquisite Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve, the elegance and depth of Costanti's Brunello Riserva, as well as the Gran Selezione from Capannelle, among many other exceptional wines along the way.

Beyond the vineyards, you'll enjoy delectable meals at traditional trattorias, experience the medieval charm of towns like Siena, Volterra and Montalcino, and even soar above the Tuscan landscape in a hot air balloon. Tour Highlights

Day 1 - Florence Arrival,  your Boutique Relais & Franco Bernabei:

  • Begin your adventure in Florence, a city steeped in artistic splendor and historical charm.

  • Unwind at your boutique hotel right in  the middle of Tuscany's Chianti Classico 

  • Engage with Sangiovese maestro Franco Bernabei, kickstarting your wine journey.

  • Savor a delectable "Benvenuti" dinner, infused with the expertise of Franco and our wine host.

 

Day 2 - Fontodi & Querciabella:

  • Delve into Fontodi's iconic Flaccianello della Pieve, a true Sangiovese masterpiece.

  • Discover the diverse expressions of Sangiovese at Querciabella in Chianti Classico.

  • Relish an authentic Tuscan dinner whilst relaxing at your charming hotel

 

Day 3 - Felsina and Capannelle:

  • Partake in a sensory exploration of Felsina's wines, complemented by a light lunch.

  • Continue the Sangiovese journey to Capannelle, exploring the nuances of Chianti Classico at its best.

  • Enjoy an evening taking in the atmosphere of Siena,  where the past seamlessly intertwines with the present.

 

Day 4 - Volterra & Bolgheri:

  • Venture to Volterra, a city rich with history and stories from ages past.

  • Delight in a beachside seafood lunch in a very special "beach hut" overlooking the Med.

  • Journey into Bolgheri, the realm of captivating "Super Tuscans," and revel in the excellence of Grattamacco Collemassari, one of Italy's top wineries


Day 5 - Montalcino:

  • Explore different aspects of the hill of Montalcino, beginning with the refined wines of Argiano.

  • Dine with Count Costanti at his home in Montalcino.

  • Immerse yourself in the distinct flavours of Costanti's Brunellos, a fitting crescendo to our Montalcino odyssey.

 

Day 6 - Montepulciano & Boscarelli:

  • Begin the day with an optional hot air balloon adventure, gazing upon the stunning landscape.

  • Uncover Boscarelli's mastery of Vino Nobile, a true embodiment of the terroir.

  • Toast to the journey's culmination with a heartfelt dinner at your villa with the owners of Boscarelli, amidst an atmosphere of celebration.

 

Day 7 - Farewell to Tuscany:

  • Bid Tuscany adieu, departing with cherished memories and newfound friends.

  • Reflect on the moments that defined "The Sangiovese Trail" as you journey back to Florence.

Tour Fitness

Please note our tours are active holidays. Walking, stair-climbing and standing around for lengthy periods are unavoidable aspects of every tour. These features should not present problems for anyone of normal fitness, but our tours and events are not suitable for those who walk slowly, need support, or lack stamina. Please read our Tour Fitness page before booking.

Unfortunately due to the physical nature of these tours they are not wheelchair friendly.

What's Not Included

Flights/travel to and from Italy. All guests must have their own insurance and show proof of this at the start of the tour. Extras (eg minibar or bar drinks) at the hotels. Your dinner in Siena on Tuesday the 4th, the casual lunch at Argiano on Thursday the 6th, and the optional Hot Air Ballon flight on Friday 7th June

Getting There

Every guest of Maestro Tours will be personally welcomed at the airport or in the city of Florence by our founder Phil Langford. Spot the Maestro Tours sign as you walk out of arrivals! All guests are required to arrange flights that will arrive on the tour start date. Tour start times will vary. We understand arrival times will also vary. Please inform us of your arrival time either by email or on your booking form.  For this tour we reccommend you arrange flights to arrive by 12pm. If you are arriving by a different mode of transport and will not arrive at the airport, you can make your way directly to Monteriggioni. Check in at the hotel will be from 3pm.
